CYCLOCROSS in OHIO

Wow, it’s been a busy couple of weeks! Usually I just leave a FB trail of images and posts as to what is going on but I thought the past couple weeks deserved a little more info. The recent ventures out on the road started with a great demo event at Manatoc last Saturday which also had a CX race during the afternoon. I was surprised by the good turnout considering at the time we were suffering thru a heat wave that was very much not Cross or MTBing for that matter. I think for the most part we all made it thru stronger…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. The demo saw a good many riders checking out the Raleigh XXIX and XXIX+g which was great to see. We were also lucky enough to get some 2011 Raleigh RX 1.0s to demo which worked well with the afternoon Cross Races.

The CX course was great as it took us thru a pretty deep sandpit that saw only a few riders capable of riding, then thru the woods where there were some additional natural barriers, then dropping us into the main field where we got to negotiate some barriers in front of the growing Cross crowd. All in all I think the loop was about 1.5 miles and well worth checking out next year if you didn’t do it this year. I fared okay all considering. I’m usually not a big fan of such heat but being the opening CX race for the NEOCX SERIES it was well worth it. Unfortunately my race didn’t go as I had hoped as I had some problems with my pedals/shoes from the get go. I ended up stripping a cleat bolt and ruining a shoe but after a quick change into my running shoes I finished my laps and hung in there.

There are quite a few great posts with regards to the event at 331 Promotions as well as one by Raleigh/Solon rider Brandon Halleen at this link that are well worth checking out.

And it doesn’t stop there…

Last night at Reagan Park in Medina, Ohio Century Cycles, Grunt Girls Racing, NEOCX Director Gregg Brekke, and Raleigh Bicycles got together to put on a great CX clinic. Considering the rain that poured thru the area all afternoon the event was extremely well attended by both those new to CX and those seasoned vets. With the guidance of Tom W from Century a great course was setup so that rider could work on the various challenges of Cross so that they could become a well oiled Cross Machine for the next event coming up this weekend, the Cascade Park CX. I want to thank everyone who came out as you all made it a great event!
