CrossVegas & Was Lab Practice

What a Cross season so far huh. Our Gates/Raleigh team here in Cleveland keeps pulling in some good results with a 4th, 5th, and 8th at Wendy Park a couple weeks back. Brandon then followed up that with a great showing at Brooklyn CX until an untimely flat took him out of contention. While all that was going on I was out in Las Vegas working the Big Show aka Outdoor Demo/Interbike and managed to get a race in myself at CrossVegas which is always a good time. I always find myself behind the 8 ball a bit with CrossVegas as the reason I am out there is to work not necessarily to play however this year I saw more miles on a bike then ever before which was great. I got to not only ride some at Dirt Demo after hours here and there but also ride with the Ride2Recovery folks as mentioned in a previous post. That ride of 50 miles in 106* heat probably didn’t help me out much for the following day’s CX race but it was a ride well worth doing for sure. So for me CrossVegas was fun. I went out hard trying to stay with the Colorado Gates guys at least for a couple of laps. Well I managed to keep them in site in the sea of 156 riders but soon exploded and found myself racing from beer hand up to beer hand up with my only complaint being the Raleigh tent always seems to be on the wrong side for a smooth hand up but I think I made it kind of work at least once. In the end I finished despite stopping at one point to fiddle with the crowd. Though not especially happy with the finishing place I was and always will be happy to toe the line at CrossVegas.

Since back home I haven’t been able to get out to a CX event yet as I’ve had some calendar conflicts however I have been able to get out to a couple local CX practices. Last night I met up with the folks at Was Lab and had a great time suffering thru some hot laps before it got dark. It was a great little park there in Stow, Ohio that really surprised me at how well it worked for Cross. I highly recommend getting out there for a Wednesday night practice if you are able, they start at 5:30!

Well until next time keep the rubber side down. Also make sure you check out the schedule for this weekend’s NEOCX events. The folks down at Stark Velo have some great stuff planned! Here’s a link to the  Northcoast Grand Prix of Cyclocross going down this weekend!
